General Counsel, BBC Worldwide North America
Vernon G. Chu has been the General Counsel for BBC Worldwide North America since July 1999, and is responsible for all legal matters affecting BBC Worldwide in the United States and Canada. He oversees policy and compliance issues in the territory including fair-trading, editorial standards, advertising guidelines, trademark and copyright policy. He is responsible for the legal aspects of BBC Worldwide North America’s television licensing business and theatrical film and consumer products business, which includes DVD, digital entertainment, live events, the BBC Direct marketing and catalog business and merchandising. He also works closely with BBC Worldwide Productions in Los Angeles.
At the beginning of his career, Chu was a corporate associate at Spengler, Carlson, Gubar, Brodsky & Frischling in New York City. Soon after, he became an associate with Kay Collyer & Boose in New York City, where he worked for six years before joining BBC Worldwide North America in 1995 as Director of Business and Legal Affairs.
Following his graduation from the Wharton School in Philadelphia in 1982 with a degree in accounting and economics, Chu continued his education and received his MBA and law degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He currently lives in Forest Hills, New York with his wife and two sons.
